Decent food, decent service, and you get way more food than you pay for! I really like this place! It's a breakfast food menu, but why does breakfast food only have to be for breakfast? You won't be able to finish your food! You'll leave with enough to reheat for your next meal for sure! The best breakfast food in my opinion!

Passing through town, I needed some breakfast. I certainly could have gone to Cracker Barrel, despite its politics and corny kitsch general store (whoopie pies) and enjoyed their great cakes. In fact I usually grab a box to take home cause we don't have this Fox News Channel of food chains back in wheat-germ and sandals California. Anyways, this place popped up on a leisurely drive down the Saginaw Highway and it looked good enough. Emphasis on the "house of pancakes" --that is always a big selling point when you can tell people what your specialty is. And who doesn't love cakes? It was pleasant enough, and the service friendly as well. Don't go expecting something fancy cause it isn't --it's basically a decent coffee shop that has blue hairs occupying tables ordering refills after refills of their brew (was OK). I had my carb load for the day with the simple order of scrambled eggs, easy, served with home fries and two buttermilk cakes. The eggs came in a real skillet and all looked great and tasted good. The eggs were actually somewhat seasoned too and the taters had a crunchy softness. The cakes were fine, though not spectacular, and paled in comparison to the ones at CB. But amid this quiet, pleasant coffee shop that apparently used to be a Bob's Big Boy back in its heyday, I'll gladly take this place next time I'm in the area. Oh yeah, all this and coffee for just about $6. Can't beat that either.

All I can say is- AMAZING waffles. I love breakfast at Sophia's but you better get their early or you'll be waiting for a table. The portions are large, price is reasonable, and the atmosphere is pretty much what you'd expect from a breakfast place. If you're on the West side of Lansing, this is a good place to check out!

Dear Sophia's, I love you! My best friend took me here and really talked it up on the way over. I had pretty high expectations, but they were no match for the great meal we were served. When you order, you get asked if you'd like toast, but tell them you'd like pancakes instead...a MUST do! The pancakes are the best pancakes ever. They are no extra charge and worth all the carbs :) I had a hard time figuring out the "secret ingredient", but it's Almond extract. I absolutely in love with them. It's about a 20 minute drive from EL, and worth it! There are also so many other cool places around, it's fun to head over, get a great meal and make a few fun stops on the way home.

I absolutely love this place! Breakfast is my favorite food and they make great food! Wish there was more places like Sophia's. Anytime I am back at home I go here!

Awesome! Spinach & feta omlette super fluffy and huge for $7.50. Meat lovers skillet was yummy. Mickey Mouse pancakes for lil ones. Place is very clean not a speck of dust! Extremely friendly staff. Comfortable atmosphere. Stays open late but closes at 4pm on Sundays. Only thing missing, a bloody mary! Will be back though.

Pleasant enough place just nothing really special or unique. Restaurant appears that it was once a Big Boy's, got bought out by private owners and redecorated a bit. Had the frittata, average. Coffee, same. Pancakes, good. One nice touch is you can get a side of pancakes instead of toast with any of the egg dishes. Also, portions are huge if you're into that. They must have used 5 eggs to make the frittata bc I probably ate just over half. Service, on par with any fast paced diner. Would I go back...sure. Would I go out of my way...no, there are plenty of breakfast joints that look exactly like it.

This place is great!! The owner is so nice, he always welcomes us with a handshake and a smile. The crew here are as always friendly and keeps the coffee cups filled. The meal sizes are more than enough and affordable.

I went there for lunch, and was impressed by how much of their menu is non-breakfast. I'm from the east-side of Michigan, where coney islands reign, and their menu reminded me of that a little. A great family owned restaurant, which features wonderful Greek favorites. I ended up having their Eggs Benedict, which was WONDERFUL. My boyfriend had a sandwich with their waffle friends (also good) and a bowl of their chicken soup. SO GOOD. We got baklava and cheese cake for dessert. Wonderful. Great service, good family-owned restaurant style food.

My family went there for breakfast a while back and was told it was the "place to go" for breakfast. I am not so sure. The owner (or manager, i'm not sure) was verky friendly and curtious to us and our children, but the food was not up to expectations. I will probably give it another try some day, becuase they could have been having a bad morning.

Ummm bullet points: -Great food (and leftovers later) -Syrup was warm when brought to the table -The cheesy scrambled eggs had cheese throughout the eggs, not just sprinkled on top -Waitress was great - friendly but not fawning or fake nice, read my mind (never had to ask for more coffee or cream) -Popular spot so there's always lots of nice conversation going on around you - people/togetherness/community, if you're into that sort of thing

Huge portion sizes for the price. I've been here a number of times and the food is always great. Their 1 egg special is probably my family favorite breakfast item on the menu. One you actually get 2 eggs, but you get a generous portion of eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. Great food. The pancakes are to die for. If you go around lunch, their burgers are amazing. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. Great food and they're priced very reasonably. The atmosphere is very relaxed and homey.

I've heard a lot about this place but have never been. The frittata was huge and pretty darn tasty. My friends skillet was also large and good. We had enough food for 3-4 people. Next time I'll share so nothing goes to waste. I recommend giving them a try.

Fast service, very large and awesome portions, and delicious biscuits and gravy! I would say this place is better than ihop by a million times. So good.

Came here after a long night at MSU, and honestly, I came here so long ago (and was hungover), that I don't even remember what it was like. I just remember it being super packed and that our waitress was a smokeshow. Other than that, it was pretty busy and a top-tier Denny's or an IHOP. The food was phenomenal, and the prices were unbeatable. I remember getting a huge portion of food (like pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast, orange juice, eggs), and only paying $10 for it or something like it. It really was a good deal. Service was good and the place was really clean; I remember that. Overall a great place to be and I'd definitely come back if I were in the Lansing area again.

Huge portions! Unless you're really hungry, you'll get a lot of food. I got the Special #1, it included eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns and pancakes. The atmosphere is very much like a diner and homey. The food was good, the hash browns were not oily, the pancakes were fluffy and the eggs were perfect. We came here because Golden Harvest was packed with a long line waiting outside. I'm sure Golden Harvest an Sophia's is not comparable, however I was satisfied with the food.

I have enjoyed going to Sophia's in the past. It is now apparently under new ownership. My DW and I had breakfast there today, and we find it just as enjoyable. We went the omelette route on this visit. I had the "Breakfast Meat" version (with bacon of course, add onion). DW had the Spinach and Feta. Both omelettes were delicious, along with being rather large. It came with hash browns and toast. Not a big review item generally, but for some reason we both thought the toast was quite good. We both requested that the hash browns be cooked to well done (crispy on the outside). Lo and behold, they actually did it. Nice and crispy.... delicious. So many restaurants seem to ignore these requests or make a halfhearted effort. In short, the service was decent, the restaurant seems well run and they make an effort to give you what you want. We will certainly return in the future. The Lansing area is not known for having fine restaurants. I awarded five stars. Technically, it's not a five star restaurant, but for Lansing it is.

Typical American diner food a little greasy. It is definitely better than most other restaurants in this category. For the city its in couldn't complain at all about the food or waitress is very good service.

Good food! Nice hearty breakfast with a fabulous menu that has lots of choices. Nice and clean.

  • Kevin W.

Lansing is definitely not known for its diners. This is an exception. The breakfast is always awsome but I varied that today and got the meatloaf and mashed potatos for lunch. It was about as close to homemade as you can get. I highly recommend this place if you are starving and don't want to spend a fortune. The place is fancy, but the wait staff is great and the the cook obviously knows what he is doing.

I have really wanted to not like this place for a long time, but I really can not bring my self to that. I have eaten there a few times and the meals are consistent, if nothing special. This is one of those places where 1 egg =2 eggs, 2 eggs=4 eggs, so you can easily get a plate full of eggs if you are not careful. The Greek style breakfast dishes are good, as are the pancakes and waffles. The service is good, the breakfast menu is good, the portions huge, and it is clean. This place is my choice over the local Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. I miss breakfast at the old Log Jam!!

    (2)
  • Jane M.

Nice waitress but very slow to get the food and the tastiest thing was the broiled slice of processed American cheese on top of the box made watery grits. Frittata was dry. Eggs Benedict was good. Sunday not the day to come.

    (2)
  • Olivia K.

Really good breakfast. Definitely would choose this over IHOP or a chain. I like that it is family owned.

    (4)
  • Suzanne B.

Pretty good breakfast food. Huge portions. Service was inconsistent. Seated and waited so long that we had to let the hostess know. Good price. Pancakes are too sweet, really taste like cake.

    (3)
  • Brandon B.

Food is great. We always get enough and its always hot. I'm not a big fan of their sausage though. Service can sometimes be lacking, we have had issues on that front more than once. Food usually makes up for it though.

  • Caron L.

Typical breakfast spot. Although the menu has a few different dishes *gyros, frittatas, etc) the pumpkin pancakes were delicious and I loved that I could get them as a side. The dishes were huge (I suggest splitting them). The staff was very friendly and even though it was crowded they got us seated pretty quickly.

Decent enough place. Food is average but has some options you probably wouldn't find in other restaurants in the area. Some nice Greek food influence. Service is good and our waitress went out of her way to answer questions. Come hungry and bring a friend because portions are huge!

Best meals, ever. Ever! For breakfast, arrive early. I mean get there, for weekends, before 8:30 or take a number. May I recommend the Hobo Breakfast? Hash browns, scrambled eggs. On my first visit I was told to watch the egg count. If it lists 2 eggs, it'made with 4. Lists 3... 6. You get the idea. The food is plentiful and coffee keeps coming. How can it get any better?
